Έχει ψηφιστεί απο το Kerrang! ως ο #1 δίσκος όλων των εποχών!

Απο εμπορικής πλευράς έχει φτάσει στο #6 στην Αγγλία και στο #48 στην Αμερική.

Piece Of Mind...

Σαν σήμερα το 1983 οι γίγαντες των γιγάντων Iron Maiden κυκλοφόρησαν το Piece Of Mind

Μια δισκάρα απίστευτης ενέργειας, έμπνευσης κι ατμόσφαιρας...

Ο Dickinson στα καλύτερά του, ο Harris να δίνει ρεσιτάλ στο μπάσο, το κιθαριστικό δίδυμο φωτιά των '80s Murray/Smith να σε μαγεύουν με τα riff/solos/bridges κι ο νεοφερμένος McBrain στα τύμπανα να παραδίδει μαθήματα...

Πραγματικά όμως υπάρχει πολύ έμπνευση σε αυτόν τον δίσκο...Τα περισσότερα τραγούδια βασίστηκαν σε βιβλία και ταινίες. Το Where Eagles Dare απο την ομώνυμη ταινία του Hutton, το Still Life απο το έργο τρόμου και φαντασίας Genius Loci του Clark Ashton Smith, το Trooper απο το ποίημα Charge of the Light Brigade του Tennyson -ο οποίος μιλάει για τα γεγονότα στην περιοχή και την νίκη των Ρώσων- το Quest For Fire απο την ομώνυμη ταινία του Annaud, το Sun And Steel απο τον συγγραφέα Mishima που αναφέρεται στην ζωή του σαμουράι Musashi, το Flight Of Icarus που ασφαλώς αναφέρεται στον μύθο του Ίκαρου, και το Tame A Land απο το βιβλίο Dune του Herbert...

ΥΓ Για χρόνια ολόκληρα, στο βίντεο του Trooper κάπου εκεί στο 2:37 με 2:39, βλέπεις τον σημαιοφόρο να πέφτει με το άλογό του, και λίγο πριν ξεψυχήσει τεντώνει το χέρι που κρατάει την σημαία, κι ένας άλλος έφιππος περνώντας απο κει, αρπάζει την σημαία και συνεχίζει την έφοδο...............................................................................................................................
Αυτά τα 2 δευτερόλεπτα ΠΑΝΤΑ με κάνανε να ανατριχιάζω και να δακρύζω (!!!!), που απο τότε σκέφτομαι να κάνω αυτή την σκηνή tattoo στην πλάτη... Δεν ξέρω αν τελικά το κάνω...αλλά ρε γαμώτο ΚΑΘΕ φορά που το βλέπω...ΚΑΘΕ φορά το ίδιο αποτέλεσμα... Τρίχα κάγκελο και δάκρυ στο μάτι... Απλά κωλώνω στην σημαία, Άγγλος δεν είμαι για να κάνω την Αγγλική, Ελληνάρας δεν είμαι για να κάνω την Ελληνική... οπότε έχω ένα μικρό δίλημμα. Δεχόμαστε προτάσεις....

Είναι ο πρώτος δίσκος που κυκλοφόρησε ποτέ σε CD, ο πρώτος που πούλησε πάνω απο ένα εκατομμύριο αντίτυπα στην ίδια μορφή, ο πρώτος δίσκος που ξεπουλήθηκαν όλοι οι δίσκοι -LP- έφτασε το #1 σε Αγγλία για 228 εβδομάδες, Αμερική για 9 βδομάδες, Αυστραλία, Αυστρία, Γαλλία Γερμανία, Ελβετία, Καναδά Νορβηγία, Σουηδία και μέχρι το 2009 έγινε 179 φορές -καλά διάβασες 179- πλατινένιος 4 φορές χρυσός 2 φορές διαμαντένιος και μια ασημένιος έχει πάρει 3 βραβεία Grammy για καλύτερη παραγωγή, καλύτερης rock ερμηνείας και καλύτερου ηχητικού αποτελέσματος και 6 singles απο τον δίσκο μπήκαν στο top10 εκ των οποίων τα 2 πήγαν #1, είναι ο πιο επιτυχημένος εμπορικά δίσκος για το 1985 και δεύτερος για το 1986 κέρδισαν ενα Brit Award για τον καλύτερο δίσκο....κι άλλα τόσα, αλλά ήδη κουράστηκα να γράφω.....

Ένας δίσκος που πέρα απο τα πολύ γνωστά Money For Nothing, Walk Of Life και μια εξαίρεση το One World, όλα τα υπόλοιπα τραγούδια είναι ενα απίστευτο ταξίδι σε εικόνες και συναισθήματα με αποκορύφωμα -για μένα- το ομώνυμο τραγούδι στο κλείσιμο του δίσκου με τον χαρακτηριστικό ήχο σε φωνή και κιθάρα του Mark Knopfler για οδηγό...
